Iceland named number one in the world for safety and security

For the third consecutive year, the 2012 Legatum Prosperity Index ranked Iceland as the number one country in the world in the Safety & Security category.

The Index, which is a one-of-a-kind global inquiry into the wealth and well-being of 142 countries, selected Iceland as the number 15th country overall. The Legatum Prosperity Index is based on several categories, which not only highlight how these countries are performing today, but also show how the countries might transform in the future. The categories used to form the index include Economy, Entrepreneurship & Opportunity, Governance, Education, Health, Safety & Security, Personal Freedom and Social Capital.

Aside from placing first in the safety category, Iceland also performed well in several other categories, including Entrepreneurship & Opportunity, where Iceland came in 9th. Iceland was also ranked 13th in the Education, Health and Social Capital categories.
