The 4th annual Meet in Reykjavík Ambassador conference was held in Harpa yesterday (14. September). The conference was attended by 200 ambassadors and associated partners.
At the conference, Thorsteinn Orn Gudmundsson managing director of Meet in Reykjavík talked about the Ambassador club and the service offered by Meet in Reykjavík for its members. Jon Atli Benediktsson Rector of the University of Iceland gave a keynote speech about why it is important for universities to support academic conferences and Eliza Reid the first lady of Iceland and founder of The Iceland Writers Retreat talked about her experience working with Meet in Reykjavík. Dagur B. Eggertson mayor of Reykjavík and the ambassador club's patron closed the conference by recalling how the MICE sector has grown over the past years or since Reykjavík first announced its intentions of becoming a Conference city, mainly because of the locals can-do-attitude.
Two club members were honored for their role in securing the arrival of important international events: Haraldur Sigursteinsson, Chairman of the Icelandic Geotechnical Society, secured the European Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering – ECSMGE to be held in 2019 and Dr. Felix Valson chairman of the Icelandic Resuscitation for hosting (ERC) – Resuscitation in September 2016.
